The RVH Liver Support Group has an ongoing fundraising campaign, raising money through its efforts and the vital support from a large number of supporters. This money has all been used to benefit liver patients in many different ways. It is important to know that all monies raised by the Group in Northern Ireland stays in Northern Ireland.

  • £75,000 funded over 2 years to investigate the role of abnormal blood vessel stiffness and function in chronic liver disease.
  • £23,500 was paid to 88 patients to help with expenses while in England for assessment or transplant.
  • £14,200 provided an E.C.G Machine, Cardiac Monitor and Reclining Chairs in Ward 6D, as well as a Phlebotomy Chair and a Video Recorder in Outpatients 6B.
  • Laptops were also provided for the Outpatients’ Clinic and a tympanic thermometer and other miscellaneous items, including 2 laptop computers for ease of access for patient's records.
A major fund raising effort was launched to provide a FibroScan Machine costing £51,000, including training and a maintenance contract, and this was a huge success which ended with a Gala Banquet on 25th April 2008. The machine is now in use and the consultants are very happy with it. But for the Group the NHS would not have supplied this equipment.
  • A sum of £10,000 has been placed in the Education Fund.

This money was raised from a wide range of activities carried out by or for the Group. These included the very successful Gala in April 2008, street collections, dances, gospel praise services, auctions, B.B.Q`s, teams in the Belfast City Marathon and donations large and small, to name but a few.
The Group offers a big thank you to all those involved in our fundraising efforts.
